With a nursing career spanning 48 years, Edna E. Atwater, BSN, RN, has dedicated her life to advancing dermatology, wound care, and skin health education. As Administrative Director Emerita of Duke Dermatology and a Past President of the Dermatology Nurses Association, Edna’s leadership and expertise have shaped clinical practice and professional development in dermatologic nursing nationwide.
Decades of Experience in Academic Health Care
Throughout her nearly five-decade career, Edna has served in both clinical and administrative roles within a large academic health system. Her work has included direct patient care, program management, and mentoring future leaders in dermatology nursing. Her ability to bridge hands-on clinical expertise with high-level administrative oversight has made her an invaluable resource to her colleagues and the healthcare community.

Leadership in Professional Nursing Organizations
As Past President of the Dermatology Nurses Association, Edna played a central role in promoting professional education, advancing evidence-based practices, and advocating for policies that improve patient care.
