Board Member Spotlight

Dr. Kimberly S. Patton, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, CWON

A family nurse practitioner and certified wound ostomy nurse advancing evidence-based care for at-risk skin.

The Coalition for At-Risk Skin (CARS) is proud to welcome Dr. Kimberly S. Patton to its Board of Directors. A board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse, Dr. Patton brings more than two decades of experience caring for complex patients across home health and acute care settings, exactly the kind of frontline expertise that keeps CARS resources grounded in real-world practice.

Two decades of complex, compassionate care

Dr. Patton specializes in chronic disease management, wound and ostomy care, patient education, and evidence-based practice. Her work centers on the patients most vulnerable to skin breakdown: those living with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, limited mobility, and other chronic conditions. She is known for building individualized treatment plans, coordinating across interdisciplinary teams, and guiding patients through complex care journeys.

A clinical leader and educator

Beyond direct care, Dr. Patton has led large-scale clinical education, competency development, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement programs for national healthcare organizations. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Educational Leadership and completed her Family Nurse Practitioner training at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Her contributions to the field have been widely recognized, including the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Clinical Manuscript of the Year Award and a Blue Ribbon Poster Award at the WOCN National Conference.

Protecting at-risk skin is a team effort that reaches from the bedside to the kitchen table. The right education, shared across the whole care circle, changes outcomes.

Her role on the CARS Board

As a Board Member, Dr. Patton strengthens CARS with deep expertise in wound and ostomy care, chronic disease education, and quality improvement. Her perspective helps ensure the coalition's tools are practical, evidence-based, and usable for clinicians, patients, and caregivers alike.
