Board Member Spotlight: Dorothy (Dot) Weir, RN, CWON, CWS

The Coalition for At-Risk Skin (CARS) is delighted to welcome Dorothy "Dot" Weir to its Board of Directors. A registered nurse who has practiced wound and ostomy care for more than four decades, Dot brings deep clinical experience across the full continuum of care and a long record of national leadership in wound management.

More than four decades in wound and ostomy care

Dot has practiced across acute care, home care, and long-term care, spent seven years in industry, and has worked in outpatient care since 2001. That breadth gives her a practical, whole-continuum view of how at-risk skin is assessed, protected, and managed wherever patients are cared for.

Dual board certification and national leadership

She is certified by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Certification Board (CWON) and the American Board of Wound Management (CWS). Dot is Co-Chair of the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care, serves on the faculty of the Wound Certification Prep Course, and is Secretary of the International Wound Infection Institute, roles through which she helps educate the next generation of wound clinicians.

From Orlando to Saratoga

After a long career in the Orlando area, Dot relocated to New York, where she currently practices at Saratoga Hospital's Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine, continuing her hands-on work with patients who have complex wounds.

Protecting at-risk skin takes clinicians who carry what they learn at the bedside into education, so the whole field keeps getting better.

Her role on the CARS Board

As a Board Member, Dot strengthens CARS with decades of frontline wound and ostomy expertise and a national educator's perspective. Her insight helps keep the coalition's tools grounded in real clinical practice, supporting clinicians, patients, and caregivers in protecting at-risk skin.
